With this upgrade, the all-new Tata Safari gets a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a new fully digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree surround camera, and ADAS Level 1 capabilities. The ADAS features are only available in XZA+(O) variant.
Another upgrade in the 2023 Tata Safari is the BS6 phase 2 compliant engine that is RDE and E20 compliant. As E20 will be rolled out in April 2023, the engine in the Tata Safari will have modified fuel systems, engine calibration, and rubber hoses to ensure safety against the corrosive nature of Ethanol.
Another update that Tata Motors has added to Safari as well as other cars in its product portfolio is that now the company offers a 3-year /1 lakh km warranty as standard. Earlier, it was 2-year /75,000 km warranty as standard.
In the front exterior, you'll see the similarities between the Harrier and the Safari. It gets a similar split headlamp arrangement, the only thing that differs is the chrome-finished tri-arrow pattern grille.
From the side, you'll see a major difference as Safari is the extended version of Harrier to accommodate the third row of seats. It has got a higher roofline, a longer rear overhang, and a full-sized rear quarter glass panel for the third row.
The taillights are somewhat similar but involve a bit of a different design language. You'll also get to see the R18 two-toned machined alloys.
One of the features that the new Safari brings along from the Tata heritage is the chunky roof rails that showcase the stepped-up roof, something that was quite prominent in the previous iterations of the Safari. The roof rails also get the Safari badging.
Now, in 2023, you get to see a whole new 10.25-inch touchscreen system by Harman that is available from the mid-spec XMS/XMA variant onwards.
The lower variants carry forward the smaller 7.0-inch touchscreen from the 2021 edition. This screen is capable of showing details such as climate information, and vehicle stats, and also acts as a display unit for the 360-degree surround camera, another big update in 2023. It also gets Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.
Behind the steering, you'll see a new fully-digital instrument cluster with an updated interface and better graphics.
Above you is the glass-dome ceiling or the panoramic sunroof to provide you with a surreal experience inside the cabin.
The first and the second row of the Safari get ventilated seats and the second row comes with captain seats for utmost comfort and a luxurious experience.
The major update in 2023 is the addition of ADAS Level 1 which comes with features like forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, high beam assist, lane departure warning, blind spot detection, lane change alert, door open alert, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear collision warning.
ADAS will use 4 modes of warnings, audio, instrument cluster display, ORVM, or infotainment depending on the type of feature that is being used by the ADAS.
Other safety features include a 360-degree surround view system, ABS with EBD, ESP with 17-added functionalities, panic brake alert, electronic parking with auto-hold, 6 airbags, all disc brakes, hill hold control, hill descent control, auto-dimming IRVM, child seat ISOFIX anchor points, and perimetric alarm system.
It also gets the driver doze-off alert system and after-impact braking to enhance overall safety.
Tata Safari is yet to be tested for the crash test rating. We can expect the SUV to score a high crash test rating, thanks to the pedigree of OmegaARC which translates to a strong build quality.
You get to choose between three driving modes: Eco, City, and Sport. The top speed of Tata Safari is over 175kmph. In sports mode, Tata Safari can reach 0 to 100 kmph in 11.54 seconds, which is good for an SUV of this size.
The overall driving experience of the Tata Safari is pleasant and the diesel engine packs enough power for the thrill. In the manual transmission, you might feel that the clutch is a bit on the heavier side. The automatic transmission that has been sourced from Hyundai is really smooth and provides a seamless driving experience.
The suspension is firm yet absorbs a lot of bumps on a bad road ensuring a pleasant ride inside the cabin. The panoramic sunroof makes the already roomy interior feel roomier. The step seats allow clear visibility of what's ahead, even for the third-row passengers.
